WILSON HILL

Wilson Hill, affectionately referred to as “Mayor of Barnhart Road,” leaves a legacy of having touched the lives of all those who needed help at one time or another.  The kind and caring manner in which Wilson anticipated the needs of others was unique.  His many years as maintenance supervisor for Illinois Power, prior to retirement, allowed him to settle on Hamlin Lake and do what he did best, help people.

It was only fitting that this dedication includes a chicken Bar-BQ, using Wilson’s own recipes.  In his spare time he managed the Knights of Columbus Fish Fries and wild game suppers, Sacred Heart’s Chicken Bar-B-Q, and assisted the Senior Citizens when they needed help.  Wilson Hill spent his life giving of himself.  If ever there was a perfect example of how all of us should strive to live, Wilson Hill was that example.

Wilson was a kind, generous, knowledgeable man of integrity.  Everyone appreciated the way he was always willing to drop what he was doing and go help someone.  There were many out of town home owners who would return to Hamlin Lake for their vacation, only to find out the Wilson had already fixed that frozen pipe, or some other problem, he had spotted while checking their homes.

His common response to those who received his help was, “That’s what friends are for.”  “The Mayor of Barnhart Road” died April 15, 1991, but his memory lives on in the lives of the people he touched.
