South Section – 2007 Weed Survey

On May 31, 2007, we rode around Hamlin Lake in a pontoon boat attempting to keep weeds to the starboard and boatable water to the port of the boat.  Using a GPS we recorded the path of the boat.  Then on September 5, 2007, we repeated the process.  Comparing these two routes gives a measure of “boatable” surface area and where the weed beds are located.

On the map below, the area between the purple and the shore was where we found weeds already in place by Memorial Day.  The purple area then represents weed beds that formed between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

We measured:

25.9 Acres at the South end near Tamarac.

This indicates that the weed beds increased by that much area during the summer of 2007.
