In 2004 Mark Tonello, MDNR Fisheries Management Biologist, conducted a fish survey of Hamlin Lake. In 2005 he presented the results at the annual HLPS meeting. This was subsequently reported in an article by Steve Begnoche in the LDN on August 1, 2005. The slides presented by Mark Tonello are currently available and can be viewed by clicking here. Mason County Walleye Association operates a Walleye rearing project for the Fisheries Division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Many of the lakes throughout Michigan are stocked with the fish raised by the project. Hamlin Lake is the grateful recipient of hundreds-of-thousands of these walleye fingerlings. The Mason County Walleye Association significantly contributes to the plentitude and quality of local sport fishing, an essential contributor to the tourist economy of the Ludington area. The President is Carter Koles. Contributions can be made to the Community foundation for Mason County. There is a Family Story about fishing in the fog at the Narrows here. |
